Lowering of the Mill Roof
In the 1950’s the top 2 storeys were removed form the mill. Reports suggest that the timbers were in a very poor state of repair and that the prohibitive cost of repair was the main contributing facter in the closure of the woollen mill in 1956. The bulding was subsequently used by grain merchants Gerald Glanville.
The process of taking off the upper stories and replacing the roof was recorded in a series of photographs. Click on an image to enlarge.
